Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, also known by its Japanese title Dragon Ball Z: The Decisive Battle for the Entire Earth (Japanese: ドラゴンボールZ 地球まるごと超決戦, Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto: Chikyū Marugoto Chōkessen) or Toei's own English title Super Battle in the World, is a 1990 Japanese anime science fantasy martial arts film and the third Dragon Ball Z feature film. Fans refer to it as the Big Green Dub for this reason. I actually have this on DVD. Reason I bought it was because I know how bad it was ^_^. Gather round ladies and gentlemen and suck from the teat of my DBZ knowledge! The films were dubbed by a company called AB Groupe and were meant for the.
Jon, another toy/tv show that never took off (all though I never got why) which was awesome was Dino Riders! I mean, it was psychic humans and aliens going at it in the prehistoric past riding on dinosaurs w/ armor and laser guns! How did this show not get popular!? I do hope Phelous would review it at some point.
It would be relatively easy as all it had was 1 Season of Episodes and several direct-to-video specials. Still irks me to this day it never worked out since Jurassic Park came out a mere 5-10 years later. Aw damn, haha, when I first saw this, I thought this was going to answer what that weird clip with Goku being called “Hiro, king of the deep!” was from, but instead it’s this. Ah well, still very enjoyable, and pretty interesting to find out how convoluted these things can get, resulting in hilarious crap like “Big Green.” Though, to this day no dub has made me laugh so hard as the Headmasters one, which I tried to watch as a kid but the I want to say “acting” but that seems inaccurate ‘voice work’, I guess, was so terrible I couldn’t get through ten minutes without turning it off. Stuff like “Billy” and “Spaceship Bruce” are the pinnacle of hilarious nonsense translation issues. AhhNow I remember why I used to hate Funimation in the early 2000s. At least they redeemed themselves in the 2010s by gathering back the same voice casts from original series for continuations of decade-old series like Slayers & Saiyuki. Saffron Henderson & Scott McNeil?
That’s rightDragonball’s voice cast carried over from Galaxy Express 999. It’s like the voice acting was done entirely by a Youtuber & a handful of friends for an abridged spoof. Who voiced the turtle? The ghost of Louis Armstrong?
Seeing those clips of YTV brought some feelings of nostalgia back for me. Who would have thought that the CanCon requirement would be responsible for the show’s success in a completely different market? This dub though, hoo boy. I haven’t heard voice acting this bad in an anime since I saw Bennett the Sage’s review of Sins of the Sisters. I’m pretty sure the company just grabbed whoever they could that spoke English.
At first, I thought it was you doing a joke voice for the Dragon, before I realized that, nope, that’s the actual one in the movie. Big Green, huh? The Jolly Green Giant Piccolo sure is not. The “off-brand Saibamen” kind of have a cool design. The voices are still hokey, though. If I want a story about a brain in a jar that wants a new host for their body, I’ll stick with the Doctor Who story The Brain of Morbius, thank you very much.
